{ Daily Snapshot }: Lunch Date with Bessie

With wonderful people: Curly Ping and Debbie, and Justin

September 15

I had a lunch date with Ping, Debbie and  Justin yesterday. It was so nice to see old friends again. We were basically just catching up with everybodys lives and reliving the good old college days. It's also a nice coincidence to see Justin who is having a 2 week vacation from Canada, the last time we saw him was 2005.

The last time I saw Pinky was last March when we had the trip in Dakak. I miss her so much. More than being one of my bestfriends, she is like my sister. We were roomates in college, and spent most of our college time together, bad times were bearable because we had each other to lean on but mostly we had so many good memories together.

Though we don't get to see each other that much, Iligan is just too far away from Cebu, I'm glad we built SOLID friendship through the years and I am positive that nothing can break that friendship.

I love you twin, till our next date on December.

xoxo,
PhoebeCarla

Sony Experia

I don't really consider myself a techy person, and I am not usually the one who gets the latest gadget out in the market but when I read the review about this phone, OMG I can't stop thinking about it.

I so need a new phone and this phone is perfect for me. It's super chic. But what I like most is that impressive crisp and clear photos and videos. That alone made my heart clap twice. Lol

Anyways, you can check a out this phone right here.

I hope this mommy's wish will come true soon. )

Plateau

I am having second thoughts of posting my progress with my BSB Project  this week because for one, I braved myself to the weighing scale earlier this morning and I'm still 120 lbs. What do I expect? I really didn't do anything to bring the scale down. But I would be cheating if I don't document this so pounds gain or loss rest assured you will be reading it here.

Here's  the scenario, our family (daddy's side) is having a reunion. 2 weeks ago cousins and aunts from Australia arrived and last week cousins from Canada and USA are already here. This family of ours are fan of great food. By great food I mean fatty and sweet. Did I tell you that they will be here until August. Yeah... And we made our itinerary last night at Starbucks over Fraps and cheescake (it was so good). And on our itinerary, there's a lot of partying and out of town trips involve.... Agh.... I knew it won't be easy to lose weight but I never thought it would be this hard.

Good Luck to me.

But you know, I'm not going to restrict myself for the coming days. I am still going to have a good time with my family. I am so glad we finally had this reunion realized it's been too long. So, If I happen to eat guilty foods I promise to forgive myself. But I am still dedicated to this project so in order to achieve both, I am going to compromise.

What's the plan? Baby steps.... I made only two plans for this week because I want to be realistic with the situation, you know what I mean?

For this week:
  • Water and coffee.I will drink nothing but water and coffee. I'm sorry I just can't let go of coffee. It's too hard but I will limit my cups to 2 or 3 max. Definitely no more sodas for me. I will drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday.
  • 30 mins Walk. And because of the feast we are having, I'm going to walk for 30 minutes a day to get rid of the calories.

Those are my baby steps for this week. Small, realistic and very achievable steps. And for my progress report this week. I didn't lose any pounds but not gaining any is something I am happy too.

I'm still keeping my will power.

Let's all stay healthy.

Ready Set Go

Source

Wouldn't it be easier if my friends are fat? I know right. Hahahahaha...
Anyways, It's just for laughs I'm still motivated to do "Bringing Sexy Back Project:" The fun is just about to begin.

I started my BSB Project last Monday, I'm anxious and excited at the same time. Every Monday I'll try to post updates on how I did that way I will be able to document my progress. There's no backing up now!

For starters, I took my BMI (Body Mass Index) to measure my body fat based on my height and weight. This will tell me if I'm overweight, underweight or normal. The values should be as follows:

BMI Categories:
  • Underweight = <18.5
  • Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
  • Overweight = 25–29.9
  • Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

I used the BMI calculator from here, if you want to do it manually you can do so by using this formula

English BMI Formula
BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches x Height in inches ) ) x 703

My result is 23.4, meaning I'm still in the normal range. Yipee. But I know I still have to lose these bulges.

Anyhow in summary here's my measurements, I'm going to update it weekly and see how I progress.

I included my waistline because I learned from here that BMI alone isn't accurate enough to distinguish between lean, sexy, healthy muscle and excess body fat. I also learned that excess body fat raises the risk of a lot of serious diseases like stroke, diabetes, cancer and more.

So for my measurements:
Height: 5 ft tall
Weight: 120 lbs
Waistline: 29

I said before the goal is to lose 10 lbs and then 10 lbs more. Plus I want to have my muscles toned. Flabby muscles please go away!!!

Tips anyone, I highly appreciate it if you could share one or two with me :)

Count Your Blessings

When I'm faced with so many problems or when I feel like the whole world is against me, you know the feeling like LUCK has made a U-Turn on you, I always count my blessings. Instead of dwelling on bad things I count my blessings to see a brighter world. And instantly it lifts my spirit to a different higher and lighter place.

Instead of 5 blessings, I'm counting my Biggest Three.

1. Family. My instant mood lifter is the blessing of a family. A solid, happy and healthy family. Nowadays, divorce is as easy as sneezing, I'm glad my marriage/ family is solid as a rock.

Friends. I'm blessed with a lot of loving and supporting people and I call them my Angels in Disguise.

2. Good Health. Job. Our dream is to be financially free, though we are not there yet I'm grateful that we have jobs that can provide and sustain our needs. Thank God we are healthy amidst the unpredictable weather.

We turned 3 years and counting

3. To be a blessing to others. Small or big, I always make ways to reach out and give back. Making other people happy is a blessing on its own.

Have a blessed week everyone.

Bringing Sexy Back Project

I really don't consider myself super sexy but at least I wasn't this big.

I'm 5 feet tall weighing 120 lbs. Medium built. Weew... saying that feels like I'm going to a boxing match. hahaha...

I was never a skinny girl, I'm more to the chubby side but it didn't really bother me before because it was so easy to lose weight when I want to, my tummy was toned back then,  plus I don't have these extra love handles before, so I didn't have to cling to my bag everytime I sit down to hide the bulges.

Aside from being a little insicure and frustrated with this yoyo weight loss and then now gaining few pounds again. My body gets easily tired, it's hard to keep up with Sophia.

It's not really bringing sexy back. It's my evolution to a healthy and more fit me. Evolution because I was never conscious about proper food and about health in general, but when your married and have kids you become a better person, you make better decisions, you want to be the best you can be because you have your family to take care of and nurture. Personally I just want to be there for them, like really there... Play with them, travel.... have two more babies... You see the picture right?

So yeah, I'm going to lose weight for me and my love ones. I'm going to stay fit and healthy too. No popping diet pills or diet coffees or whatever artificial. I'm going to do it the natural way, coz I've learned that's the only way I'm going to keep those numbers steady.

I'll give a weekly updates on how I did... My goal is to lose the 10 lbs and then 10 lbs more after. Hmmmm. We'll see.

Can I bring her back?

WILL POWER!

Why Dogs Leave Earth First

Do you have dogs? My friend posted an article about how dogs lives are shorter than ours and I thought I might share it with you guys.

" Dogs already know how to love, so they don't have too stay as long as we do".

Made me miss Tazzie. My first pet Dog and sadly my last. I'm not sure if I can find another like her.

Tazzie, I miss you so much. I still think about you every now and then. Thank you for loving me.

Day 4: My Favorite Night

November 21, 2006. The night changed my life forever.

This was our first date, this was also the first time I get to meet Maury in person. It wasn't the first time he asked me though, i turned him down several times because I was scared to fall in love with him although I think I already was. We've been textmates for a year, but I was scared to go on a date with him because deep inside I know it will confirm my deep affection for him and I'm scared of the falling in love getting fooled and hurt process.

Until one night, THAT night, he just came in our doorstep looking for me. He asked my mom first if he could take me to dinner so I have no excuses of not going.

We got to know each other more, and I remember thinking and thanking God for Maury, because deep inside I know he was my answered pray. I asked God to give me a good man, a family, responsible man who  loves me with all his heart. And he gave me just that and more. God really loves me, he just didn't give me all the traits I want in a man he also gave me a good looking one. hahaha... Thank you Papa God.

After our first date, we were inseperable. On that same week he asked me to marry him. He asked me to be his wife even before asking me to be his girlfriend. His fast like that, hahahha....

Day 2: Family I made for Myself

This is suppose to be a picture with a person I am closest to the longest. BUT it's just so hard to pick one, really.

So, I'm giving to you the people that are constant in my life aside from my family of course.

We can't choose our family but we can choose our friends. And these friends of mine, who've seen me at my worst and at my best are my life line are the extended family I made for myself.

My Girlfriends. These are girls I grew up with, we've been friends from highschool, we've bee there for each other through thick and thin and practically treat each other like sisters. Sad to say there's only three of us left here in Cebu most are in Singapore and US but thanks to social network like facebook we are up to date with each other's lives.

My College BFFS. One of my priceless possession. We don't see that much but in so many ways , I can say we are soulmates. When I'm feeling sad and lost, out of nowhere I get a phone call or text from them.

I still got a lot of close friends but these people are my longest close friends.

Making this post made me realize how blessed I am. I'm surrounded with great people. :)

Day 1: 10 Random Things About Me

WOW!!! I thought this is going to be easy as I thought, but seriously I don't know where and how to start. So I decided to go random and just blab and type the first 10 things that will come out of my mind.

Here we go:

  • I am Phoebe Carla Omolon- Kilat. You can call me Lalah. Happily married for 4 years with one adorable princess Sophia Isabelle. I’m 30 years old, don’t look like one and surely don’t feel like it. They say I look 20esh. Naks!
(I’m not sure if it’s to my advantage or the other way around)  it has disadvantages too, like when I treat patients the first time, they always look for the dentist.
HEY I"M THE DENTIST! hahahaha...
  • I am the president of the long hair club. Been wearing my hair this long for a long time now, I’m going back and forth on having it cut. Let’s see how things progress, maybe I’ll conquer my fear and finally have it cut short. I’m 5 feet tall… okey 4’11 and 1/3 but 5 feet is easier to say hehehe…
  • I’m the luckiest girl in the whole wide world (in my own perception). I’m a spoiled friend. I’m a spoiled wife, let’s just say hubby loves me sooooooooooo much. Spoiled favorite daughter, because I’m the only girl of 2 boys… again making me their spoiled favorite sister. I’m the best mom in the whole wide world in the eyes of my ever dearest loyal daughter Sophia. :) I’m the luckiest girl because I’m surrounded with loving people who stick with me through thick and thin. But hey I love them a whole lot too and I sure do spoil them all with  101% loving.I am a working yet hands on mom. I’m a mom who can’t cook but really trying to learn for the “loves” of my life.
  • I always speak my mind, I say what you need to hear. Sometimes people mistakes me of being Maldita because I'm very outspoken, but I always do it with repect naman.
  • I was born premature in fact I was a "blue baby", but now pretty much healthy. I was allergic to almost anything before, but slowly my immune system got better and I can eat anything I want but still cautious and I still bring my anti-histamin withh me wherever I go.
  • My neck got "bilbil" like Janice de Belen. That's one of my insecurities but I learned to accept and I hope eventually love it.
  • I know a lot of people but I only have few true friends I keep. I go for quality not for quantity.
  • If I wern't a Dentist, I am a Lawyer.
  • I love life and all the beautiful things it has to offer. I love it’s simplicity and complexities. I love hearing and reading stories, they inspire me. I love to write.I always have my magic notebook with me wherever I go, and jot down brilliant ideas and even the tiniest insignificant once, and try to implement them whenever I have time. Hey I only got one life and I don’t want to miss a thing.
  • I am the queen of Positivity… I don’t allow any nega things to consume me. I find it easier to smile than frown. I love to laugh, and I laugh my heart out.  They say my sunny disposition is contagious,  and I love that.
  • I love to inspire others. I love to share stories… I blog because I want to remember.

Live well, Laugh often, Learn always and Love even more.

xoxo,

Daily Snapshots: Motherhood. What have you done to me?

Mother's Day 2012

Being a Mother changed my life in so many ways. And I thought about what life used to be without Sophia and these are the few changes I've observed through the whole 2 years of being a Mom.
  • In fairness to me, I've always been a very thoughtful and loving person but I didn't know that by being a mom I COULD LOVE THIS MUCH. That I still have this much love to give. It's crazy. You don't account who loves more and how much love you have already given, you just love. Love. Love. Period.
Now the meaning of unconditional love is crystal clear to me.
  • I miss shopping for myself. And I realized that it's never going to happen again. If I shop for myself, I always end up shopping for me, hubby and Little S.
Heck, it's even easier to decide purchasing things for Little S, than going for my indulgence.
  • I've become a constant thinker and worrier. I can't help it. I'm always thinking about Hubby and Sophia's care 24/7.
  • I now prefer to wear flat and comfy shoes.
  • I've become so emotional about kids and families. One time I remembered watching a coke commercial here, I was crying for like 3 minutes. Promise, I got so affected by the commercial.
But those changes are only few and minor, compared to the wonderful gift of being a MOTHER. I wouldn't trade my everyday kiss and hug from Sophia, I wouldn't trade the joy she gives me every day. True, Mauryy completes me and with Sophia she keeps us WHOLE.

I play a lot of roles, from being a wife, a friend, a sister and a daughter. But Being a MOTHER is the BEST role I love to play.

Where was I?

I wasn't so visible for 2/ 3 weeks already but believe me I'm here. I read my fave blogs everyday but just couldn't find time to squeeze in a little time to make a post.

It was Little S second birthday last April 3, and I was super busy for two weeks preparing everything, in between work and taking care of the "princess". I had a lot of  DIYs ... It was CRAYZEY!!! exhausting but all worth it. I can't wait to share everything with you... each small details....

IF ONLY, my laptop didn't die on me again last Wednesday... and this time lappy is not rising from the dead...

I am super super sad. She was my first ever lappy, and I know it sounds absurd but losing her is like losing a body part...

MY FILES!!!! I hope that, can be recovered. At least that...

Hairstyle: Round Faces

What's your face shape?

If you have a round face like most Asians are, let me welcome you to the club *hugskissesmwah*.... I feel you. I feel you.

Do you envy those faces with Oval shapes? The ones who can get away with any hairstyles? Me too. That's the reason why I'm always hesitant to get haircuts. You can read it here. I'm too scared to walk out of  the salon full faced, you know what I mean? The chubby chubby cheeks, the more now that I've gained weight.

But hey I'm proud to say, I finally braved my way to the salon to get a haircut. And I now know what hairstyle suits my round face best.

I know... few more months and Rapunzel will hate me lol

Here is what I learned, there's really no need to hate our round face, we just have to know some tricks and tips so we can embrace what we have and focus on making us confident and gorgeous. As they say make the most of what we have.

The most basic principle on hairstyles for a round face is:
Get a hair cut  that deflects the roundness of the face.
Stay away from Big- Hair looks. Its just not for us.

Here are some tips and tricks I want to share with you. :

YES!!! to:

  • Long Hair- because it lengthens the face. (Now you know why I always wear my hair long.)
  • Straight Hair- because it doesn't add body to the side of the face.
  • Long Layers and uneven cuts that starts at the earlobes or lower

This hairstyles can be tricky to most of us  but is still doable:
  • Curls add volume to your face, but  if you insist on having one, it should begin below the lips. Cut in layers to weigh it down and make sure to grow it a couple inches or more below your chin.
  • Bangs- go for side swept bangs
  • Bobs- go for long bobs that are at least 2 inches longer than the jawline

What cut did I get? I chopped off 5 inches of my hair. Had a side bangs that drop chin level. And since I have thick hair, I asked for long layers to soften my face .

Ilavit!!!!

I'm loving my new hair.

Somehow getting a new haircut renewed me in so many ways and it inspired me to love me more. So dramatic right? but that's how I truly feel. We devoted mothers and wives deserve all the pampering, after all a  Happy Mommy = Happy Family.

PhoebeCarla

P.S
You can read more about Hairstyles for round shape faced  here and here if you're unsure about your face shape  you can go ahead and check for yourself what face shape you have, here.

Birthday Cake

An earthquake hit Cebu last February 6. On my 30th birthday.

It was horrifying but more on that on my next post, I'm still too shaken with the experience and honestly we still feel a little of its aftershocks. I hope it will go away soon. SOONEST.

My cousin posted in my FB
"Ate, The world surprised you with an earthquake for your birthday, Fireworks are too boring na daw."
At least, that made me laugh.

Despite the tsunami scare, my mom prepared a cake for me. Seeing it on the table made my heart clap for joy.

Pink cake, with colorful tops... ah... I so miss this cake. Nothing beats a home baked cake made out of love. I used to have cakes like this when I was younger. And it's so nice of my mom to prepare one for me. It brings back good childhood memories.

This is an inexpensive cake, but this cake means Happiness to me. Whats a birthday without a cake right? The best present I got so far. Thank you mommy for making me feel like a kid again. :)
